Known for his creativity in the kitchen,
Matt Swickerath has earned a reputation for
pairing fresh, seasonal ingredients with
Matt's passion for cooking began after he
completed his degree in English from the
University of Florida, by landing his first
job at a Disney Resort in Buena Vista.
After spending nine years in the restaurant
industry in his home state of Florida, Matt
moved to Atlanta in 1996, and quickly became
known for his innovative dishes using
creative and non-traditional ingredients to
please Atlanta's most distinguished dining
Matt worked for some of the most acclaimed
and award-winning restaurants in Atlanta
before taking the executive chef position at
Valenza Restaurant in the fall of 2007.
Matt’s hard work and dedication have been
instrumental in Valenza’s success and he was
named Partner in 2014.
Chef Matt's passion and drive for cooking is
defined by his attention to detail and his
use of primarily locally-grown and organic
foods that come with each new season .
Matt has participated in many events
benefiting non-profit organizations
including Share Our Strength, H.E.R.O for
Children, March of Dimes and the James Beard
Foundation. Matt currently
resides in the Emory University area of
